Fan Awards: Funniest Moment

The 2007 was full of humorous moments, but none was funnier than what happened during the inaugural Busch Series race in Montreal.

Robby Gordon and Marcos Ambrose tangled while racing for position on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve road course, which Gordon believed was for the lead.

After they made contact and spun, Gordon maintained he was the leader despite NASCAR sending him back to 13th-place in the field.

When the race went back to green, Gordon punted Ambrose into the infield.

Gordon then ignored NASCAR's black flags and when the checkered flag flew for Kevin Harvick, Gordon crossed the finish line and then went into a series of celebratory burnouts, claiming he had won the race.

"In my opinion, I won the race," Gordon said. "I completed all the laps. We've seen this happen before - guys get spun when they slow down. That's exactly what happened with Marcos. He spun me when I slowed down, and NASCAR told me I'm going to go back to 17th.

"That's not the way it is. It's happened many times, they've set precedents before. We'll appeal this - we won this race."

Needless to say Gordon's appeal went nowhere and NASCAR sat him for the next day's NEXTEL Cup race at Pocono.

But the sight of his "victory" celebration while the real race winner Harvick was doing his was priceless.

To make up for it Gordon did a nice gesture by offering Ambrose a competitive Cup car for the Watkins Glen race.

I was at Watkins Glen when that guy asked Matt Kenseth for the autograph during the red flag. After we were sure the guy wasn't gonna go shoot him or anything and found out what he was doing, it was really funny. :)

Unfortunately I have to disagree with the choice on this one, I actually saw the Montreal thing as bad for the sport and not funny at all. It showed us that NASCAR is definitely capable of being incompetent and that one guy gets mad he can take out whomever he wants to and basically affect the finish of the race. So, I would have to agree with those before me and say that the fan trying to get Kenseth's autograph was the funniest moment of 2007. What made it even better was the reaction he got from Kenseth as well as Kenseth's crew. Robby Reiser was dieing from laughing so hard, and Matt Kenseth said he told the guy "umm I'm kinda busy right now"! I don't know if I have ever seen anything that funny happen at a race before, I was in tears from crying so hard.

I guess it would have to be the drunk guy (ephatch02) who thought he was at Martinsville and not the Glen, when Kenseth was asked for his autograph during the red flag.

The funniest moment for me this season was Kyle Petty slapping Denny Hamlin's visor down. The caption on the photo should read "Veteran Driver puts Kid in his place". It's a little thing called respect Denny.

One of the best and possibly the funniest moments was after Jr. spun out, exited his car and took the deep bow for the fans beside his broken car.
