Fan Awards: Biggest Disappointment

Kasey Kahne literally went from the penthouse to the outhouse in 2007.

The Gillett-Evernham Motorsports driver was a pre-season pick by many to win the 2007 Nextel Cup title.

    He certainly earned it.

After a series-leading six victories in 2006 and an eighth place finish in the Chase, Kahne seemed poised to have a breakthrough season and continue his ascent up the NASCAR ladder.

But instead Kahne suffered through a frustrating and dismal season.

He struggled all season and didn’t make one visit to victory lane. After posting 12 top five finishes in 2006, he cracked the first five only once all season and tumbled down the standings to finish 19th in the final rundown.

The runner-up award goes to Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who like Kahne, was plagued by problems all year long.

Junior's farewell season with DEI was nothing but trouble with the No. 8 Chevrolet blowing engines in what seemed like a weekly basis.

Earnhardt, Jr. failed to finish nine races in 2007 and for the second time in three seasons missed the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup.

What is your choice for the biggest disappointment of 2007?

There are two options to vote:

    1. Post your response below or 2. Email your selection to press@racingone.com

Please limit choices to just the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck Series

    Voting continues for previous awards

In my opinion Dale Jr was a bigger disappointment. Kahne seems to do this, have a good year and then a bad one, but 2007 was the first year that Dale Jr did not have a win. Of course he didn't make the chase either, but that's happened before. I just hope that with Hendrick he will finally be able to show the NASCAR nation why so many of us believe in his abilities, that the name Earnhardt means much more than just a name.

I was disappointed by the COT.  I was hoping to see the competition improve and I did not see that ...

Dale Jr. all the way.  Evernham as a whole was down this year but Jr. didn't have an excuse nor did DEI.  Jr. should have run better than he did but that may not be all his fault.....

Biggest disappointment this year? NASCAR as a whole. Awful TV coverage (ESPN), biased Chevy dominance, the Busch series nearly biting the dust, and most races turning into a Brian France money parade. It seems all the people running NASCAR think whatever they do can never be the wrong idea. Sheer laziness should be the top story of the year. If France and his cronies continue to do things their way, there will be no NASCAR in a few years. And thats putting it lightly.

There is no "biased chevy dominance".   Roush admitted publicly they did not do adequate testing on the C.O.T.  Ford & Dodge Failed to do their homework,  and lost miserably.  It was great.

Nascar as a whole was very disappointing due to the cot's and toyota and the f1 drivers. The only american sport left being trashed same as the rest.
Money is what its about now, not RACING!!!

I was disappointed by the COT.  I thought it might have been further in it's development by now.  I am also disappointed in Dale Jarrett's performance.  I said going to Toyota would end his career on a down note and it has.  What was he thinking?

Dale Earnhardt Jr. had to be the worse disappointement for the 2007 season.  Carl "OPIE" Edwards and his attitude had to be right up there too.  Opie lost a lot of respect.

I am continually disppointed by the current process of qualifying. I am tired of drivers making great efforts only to be bumped out of the race by a slower driver getting in on past provisionals, owner points, etc. Those drivers get to race Sundays but never do anything to make it interesting...what a waste.

My biggest disappointment came in the very first race with Mark Martin getting another 2nd place finish. The end of the season was my 2nd place disappointment since I am NOT a Jimmy Johnson/Jeff Gordon fan. I will be a Hendrick fan next year when Dale Jr. gets there but still NOT a JJ/JG fan. I hope Jr. kicks their butts.

Biggest disappointment for me was Dale Jr's bad luck and for sure Michael Waltrip Racing's qualifying disadvantages. I'm hoping Nascar will change the top "35" rule " before next season!!

canuck is on to something, I dunno if I have ever seen Dale Jarret have such a horrible performance. I expected him to do decent in a toyota but not nearly as bad as he did this year.

Jarrett is only running in maybe (don't know the exact) but I think the first 6 races of 2008. I also, expected him to do better. Not a big toyota fan but, I do think they will be much better next year.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Kahne is overrated to begin with, and if he doesn't have dominant horsepower on cookie cutter tracks, he is nothing.  He had that in '06, he didn't have that in '07.
