L.W.Miller Wins Nascar Whelen Southern Modified Tour Opener At Caraway Speedway

L.W. Miller received an early Easter present tonight in winning the Nascar Whelen Southern Modified
Tour 150 opener held at Caraway Speedway.Miller,the hard charger from Mooresville held off the advances
of Ted Christopher,Plainville,Ct. to score the opening night win for the Nascar Whelen Southern Modified Tour
Division in his quest to win back to back championships.
Tim Brown,Cana,Va. set fast time in his Hayes Jewelers Chevy with a time of 15.829 around the quick .455
of a mile speedplant.Brown drew the #8 pill in the draw and when the race began,Mount Airy driver Frank
Fleming was on the pole flanked by L.W. Miller on the outside of row one.Fleming led 26 of the finest drivers
to the drop of the green flag and 150 laps of up close,in your face, mighty mod action had started.Fleming
held off the advances of Miller thur the first 60 laps of competion as the top 8 drivers ran nose to tail with Brown
in 3rd place followed by George Brunnhoelzl,III,West Babylon,N.Y.and Christopher moving into the top five.Thomas
Stinson,Richmond,Va. brought out the caution flag and on the restart, Miller wrestled the lead away from Fleming.
Brown,Christopher and Brian Loftin,Lexington were coming on strong and by lap 125 Miller was leading Brown,Christopher,Loftin
and Fleming who rounded out the top five.
Ted Christopher was a man on a mission and with 20 laps to go was up to 2nd place,looking for a way around
the leader when a major accident that involved Jay Foley,Stuart,Va. and others brought out the red flag.A classic
southern-style modified shootout was set up but Miller had the car to beat as he roared under the waving checkered
flag just in front of Christopher.Brian Loftin brought his Chevy home in 3rd place as Tim Brown and Bobby Grigas,III
rounded out the top 5 finisher's.
L.W.Miller pulled his Baker Plumbing and Utilites Chevy into victory lane after the hard earned win and thanked
his family,his friends,his crew and all of his fans for his victory.Miller is now the early season points leader heading
into next weekend's Nascar Whelen Southern Modified Tour event in Kenly,N.C.at Southern National Speedway.
